General Collection
General Collection of the Public Library of Budva has been in existence for almost a century, but unfortunately, due to the turbulent history of this region, it lacks continuity. Today, it has over 60,000 books, mostly fiction, and about 11,000 titles in all areas of human knowledge and arts.
Children’s Collection
It consists of 11,000 books, picture books, comic books, DVDs and children's newspapers that can be browsed, viewed or used in the cozy area of the Children's Department.
Reference Collection
Valuable books and masterpieces of history and theory of various disciplines, encyclopedias, dictionaries, anthologies, proceedings, atlases and other rare works are part of the Reference Collection which is used exclusively in the Library’s reading room.
Local History Collection
By extracting editions from its own collections and collecting local history material in the local archives and from citizens, the Local History Collection begun to be formed in 1990. It contains about 3,000 units of different material related to the past of Budva, as a geographical, ethnic, historical, cultural, economic and political area. The first step in its modern popularization is the planned project of digitalization of "Primorske novine", a local newspaper that was published from 1972 to 2003, sometimes irregularly. "Primorske novine" is a kind of chronicle of the Budva municipality and therefore a valuable source of information for various researches.
Collection of Periodicals
In addition to the current periodicals, the Library keeps all the years of "Primorske novine", a local newspaper that was published from 1972 to 2003. Newspapers, magazines and other periodicals are used in the Library’s reading room.
Foreign Literature Collection
It contains 4,000 books in German, English, Russian, Italian, French, and Scandinavian languages. Due to a large number of foreign tourists visiting Budva and the growing number of foreigners who choose the Budva Riviera for their permanent place of residence, this collection is becoming more and more popular. The library intends to renew previous contracts with hotels in Budva and Bečići. Visiting tourists will thus be able to enrich their holidays by reading a good book in their own language.
Branch Library “Stefan Mitrov Ljubiša“ in Petrovac
Today's branch library is a distant successor of the first reading club which was formed in 1890 in Kastel Lastva (former name of Petrovac), and was named "Serbian Reading Club". The company that launched the Reading Club built a building for it in 1906. The building was destroyed in the 1979 earthquake. The Library now works in the “Crvena komuna” historical building. It offers nearly 20,000 books for children and adults, as well as access to the Internet.
